PRE and POST CARE
​ PRE Care: If you have a history of cold sores or herpes virus, viral infections may be reactivated following lip injections. Although cold sore occurrences are uncommon following lip injections, it is best to speak with your GP regarding cold sore treatments. POST Care: - Avoid salty/sugary food and drinks to prevent excessive licking of lips, causing sensitivity and lead to infection. - Avoid hot/cold food and drinks before the swelling subsides as your lips will be particularly sensitive. - Avoid applying lipstick and make-up for 24 hours after treatment - this will prevent infection at injection sites. ​ To achieve optimal results, a further treatment may be required after 2-3 months from your initial consultation. Occasionally, a touch-up may be required especially if your lips are asymmetrical.
SPECIFIC to Lip Filler:
PRE Care for Lip Filler, Dermal Filler & Anti-wrinkle Injections:
. Avoid 24 hours prior to treatment: - Alcohol; - Caffeine; - Medications and supplements that increase the risk of bruising. These include: - Aspirin, - Nurofen, - Fish oil, - Vitamin E, - Gingko biloba, - Oils that are high in omega-3 fatty acids.
. ​ Stay upright 4 hours after treatment and apply cold packs to injection sites to reduce risk of bruising. Avoid: - Rubbing and pressing on the treatment area for 48 hours; - Sun and heat exposure until any swelling and bruising fully subsides; - Alcohol, caffeine, cigarettes, vapes for 48 hours after treatment; - Vigorous exercise for 48 hours after treatment - to help damaged blood vessels and capillaries recover quicker from minimising blood flow to the treatment area. ​ During the first 24-48 hours after treatment, you will notice some redness/swelling/ tenderness. This is normal and will resolve spontaneously after 2-4 days. Any bruising at injection sites will resolve within 10 days or less. If you experience some pain from a mild headache or with the numbing cream wearing off, you may take paracetamol. Avoid Nurofen and other NSAIDs as they can increase the risk of bruising. Swelling and bruising can also cause an uneven appearance at the treatment area. This will settle once the swelling and bruising subsides. Please call us or book a review appointment if the unevenness is still present 10 days after treatment.
